How Do I Migrate Gliffy Diagrams Between JIRA Server and JIRA Cloud?

Gliffy JIRA Plugin is available for both JIRA Server and Cloud. The add-on comes in two different flavors to match these different installation types, and they each store diagrams as issue attachments. However, Gliffy for JIRA Cloud also stores diagram content on Gliffy servers in order to reduce load times and increase the responsiveness of our application. Fortunately, since both flavors of Gliffy for JIRA store diagrams as issue attachments, the migration process between Server and Cloud is as easy as following Atlassian's migration instructions, and then installing the appropriate version of Gliffy for JIRA.

Migrating from JIRA Server to JIRA Cloud:

  1. Follow the instructions listed on this Atlassian Cloud migration article: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CLOUDKB/Migrating+from+JIRA+Server+to+JIRA+Cloud
  2. Ensure that all JIRA issue attachments were migrated correctly during the process. It's worth verifying that your attachments have been copied/migrated correctly by checking a few JIRA issues known to have attachments.
  3. Install the Gliffy JIRA Cloud Add-on by finding it in the Atlassian UPM, or by uploading the latest Gliffy JIRA Cloud Add-on descriptor URL manually.
  4. When you navigate to any JIRA issue which contains a .gliffy diagram attachment, it will automatically be migrated to the Gliffy Cloud. A spinner is shown while this process takes place, and migrated Gliffy diagrams are renamed with a *.gliffy.original file extension (this preserves your data, should any error occur during the process).
  5. After the import/migration process, subsequent edits to Gliffy diagrams will be stored in two places: in Gliffy's Cloud, and as attachments in JIRA. The Gliffy Cloud storage system is designed to reduce the load times of Gliffy diagrams. The JIRA attachment storage method is designed to make migrations to JIRA Server a breeze.
