[RESOLVED] Amazon AWS S3 Outage - 2/28/2017

Gliffy is hosted by Amazon's AWS S3, which is known as one of the most reliable hosting solutions available today. An outage for this service is unprecedented, and unfortunately this morning that has occurred. Amazon is reporting increased errors impacting their US-East S3 services.

We are monitoring the situation closely, and Amazon is currently working to get the issue resolved. We will keep this page updated throughout the process. This issue is currently impacting both Gliffy Online as well as Gliffy for Confluence Cloud

This issue is impacting multiple websites across the internet. We do not anticipate any data loss relating to this situation. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Amazon has updated their status page with the following information:

As of 1:49 PM PST, we are fully recovered for operations for adding new objects in S3, which was our last operation showing a high error rate. The Amazon S3 service is operating normally.

PLEASE NOTE - This does not signal a resolution with all issues. As shown on the Amazon service page, several services are still not functioning at full capacity.

S3 object retrieval, listing and deletion are fully recovered now. We are still working to recover normal operations for adding new objects to S3.

We are seeing recovery for S3 object retrievals, listing and deletions. We continue to work on recovery for adding new objects to S3 and expect to start seeing improved error rates within the hour.

We have now repaired the ability to update the service health dashboard. The service updates are below. We continue to experience high error rates with S3 in US-EAST-1, which is impacting various AWS services. We are working hard at repairing S3, believe we understand root cause, and are working on implementing what we believe will remediate the issue.

Functionality Currently Impacted:

  • Opening Diagrams
  • Error appearing when attempting to open diagrams
  • Receiving "Not recognized as a valid Gliffy file" error
  • Inability to save Gliffy diagrams
