Exporting Gliffy as SVG for use in Adobe Illustrator

suggested this on May 9, 2011, 2:16 PM

I want to export the flowchart I've created in Gliffy and print/create a pdf in Adobe Illustrator to get a high quality document (in terms of text quality).

When I save the chart as an SVG file and open in Illustrator, the chart does not present as WYSISYG. (The text is hanging out of some of the boxes and is not going all the way to the edge of the boxes).

This isn't usable - can you explain what the issue might be and how I can make this work? I was really loving this product - but now I'm very frustrated.

Thanks for your suggestion Martha!

The issue with your SVG export is known, and on our list to fix:

Work arounds include:

- Use png export

- Use File, Print, PDF. Then use a 3rd party application to print to high quality PDF (more details here)

Thanks again for reporting this! We hope you'll keep us posted on future questions and we'll let you know when improvements with SVG export occur,

Hi @Debi,

File, print, PDF generated a really low-res image which was missing critical information :(

Is there any chance you will improve this? I'm running the plugin on the latest OSX release of Flash.

Hi Ben,

You can get a much higher quality PDF export by printing Gliffy as if you were printing to a printer, but when the Mac Print dialog box appears, click PDF and have your mac produce the PDF. If you generate a PDF from within Gliffy, the resulting document will be a PNG export of the diagram embedded a PDF document, while your mac will create a more properly PDF document.

Thank you,

Thanks a lot -- that'll do me for now. SVG export seems not to work at all and I have to say I'd really like to have that ;-)

How do I export to SVG? Also, what is the timeline for adding back in the functionality that lets me print to the printer or PDF from within the Gliffy editor? It really worked well, and now that feature is gone. At the Atlassian Summit, I was told that it would be added back in soon... How soon?
